Tropical Rainforest
by Eric and Steve

Our story is on the rainforest. In our picture there are the layers of the rain forest with animals.

The first animal is the jaguar. In our picture he is after the squirrel monkey to eat. The jaguar’s meals are ocelots, birds, and monkeys. They also eat fish in rivers or ponds.

The second animal is the squirrel monkey. It is climbing a tree to get away from the jaguar. The squirrel monkey has a diet, so it eats leaves, fruits, and tiny insects, such as spiders.

The sloth is our third animal in our picture. It is just hanging around. His meals are usually leaves, stems, berries, and fruits. The sloth is very active at night.
The next animal is the macaw. It is our fourth animal in our picture. Our macaw is feeding its young worms. Macaws like to eat fruit. To find fruit they fly in the air to search for it.

The snake makes it our fifth animal in our rainforest picture. Our snake’s are slithering on a branch or down a tree. A snake’s appetite has eggs and other small animals.

The howler monkey is our sixth animal. It is in the emergent layer, swinging around. Howler monkeys eat only leaves.

The poison arrow frog is our seventh animal in are picture of the rain forest. It is hopping around. It eats insects and lives on the forest floor.

The leaf cutter ants are the eight animal in our picture. They are cutting leaves. Leaf cutter ants only eat leaves.

That was our story about the trees, plants, and animals. Hope you like our story and picture.

Animals of the Rain Forest
by Evan and Alessandro

There are many animals in the rain forest. Our animals include jaguars, macaws, sloths, poison arrow frogs, and howler monkeys.

Jaguars sometimes hunt in rainforest trees. They spend most of their lives on the ground. They eat birds, sloths, monkeys, and other land animals. Jaguars also hunt for fish in rivers and streams.

Kinkajous eat fruit, honey, other insects and other small animals. They use their long tails to grasp branches as they move through the trees in search of food. Kinkajous are active at night.

Macaws fly in search of food. They use their keen eyesight to spot ripe food. Macaws nest in rainforest tree. This is where they care for their young.

Howler monkeys eat young leaves that are found mostly in the higher levels of the trees.

Sloths eat leaves, stems, berries, and fruits in the rainforest trees. They are active at night.

Poison arrow frogs eat insects. They live on the ground in the tropical rainforest. They are also found on the trunks and other levels in the trees but not at the top levels.

Squirrel monkeys eat different kinds of food. This includes leaves, fruits and small animals such as insects and spiders. Squirrel monkeys are found at all levels of the rainforest.

Those are some of the rainforest animals in the world. There are a lot. There is a lot to explore and there are some we haven't discovred yet, at least thousands of animals.

The Rainforest
by Gina and Sarah

Hello, our names are Sarah S. and Gina B.. We wrote a report and drew a poster on the rainforest. Here are our descriptions for animals and plants:

Animals

  1. Toco Toucans

A Toco Toucan measures about twenty-five inches long. They feed mainly on very small fruits. Toco Toucans sometimes use their saw-like bills to tear off pieces of larger fruits. The bill of a toucan can be black, blue, brown, green, red, white, yellow, or a combination of colors. Toco Toucans use the colorful bill to attract mates. They live in small flocks for protection and they sleep in hollow trees at night. They are found in, the Guianas and Brazil.

  2. Parrots

Parrots are mainly found in warm or tropical areas. They can be two to three inches long. Most parrots are brightly colored and have thick, hooked bills. Parrots are noisy, talkative birds that live chiefly in forest areas in lowlands and mountains. Some live in savannahs(lightly wooded plains) and dry regions. Many of the world’s parrots are in danger of extinction, largely because people have destroyed much of their habitat.

  3. Ocelots

Ocelots are three and one-half to four inches long including their tail. They stand sixteen to eighteen inches high at the shoulder. Ocelots spend most of their lives on the ground, but can hunt in trees. They are good climbers. If taken at a young age they can be tamed and made good pets.

  4. Howler Monkeys

Howler Monkeys are named for the unusually loud noises they make. The roar can be heard two miles away. Howlers roar at dawn to tell their location. They only live in trees. Groups may vary in size from two to fourty-five members. They weigh twelve to twenty pounds and grow from two to three feet long.

  5. Jaguar

Jaguars are the largest, most powerful wild cat in the western hemisphere. They eat any kind if animals: birds, fish, mammals, and reptiles. Jaguars are six to eight and a half feet long. They weigh from one-hundred fifty to three-hundred pounds.

  6. Swallow Tails

There are about six-hundred species of Swallow Tail butterflies. Most are found in the tropics. They have a wing span of about ten inches. Most Swallow Tails are black, brown, and yellow with red and blue strips on their hind wings.

Plants

  1. Orchid

An orchid can be only one-fourth of an inch high to the size of vines as much as one-hundred feet high. They are all colors except black and they may be streaked or speckled. The orchid is a kind of plant and a kind of food that comes from the rainforest.

  2. Rosewood

Rosewood is used for knife handles, brush handles, and ornamental furniture, It’s color is a dark reddish-brown to a purplish-brown. The name comes from the rose-like odor of the wood when it is sawed. The wood is sometimes called blackwood. Rosewood comes from trees in the genus Dalbergia. These trees grow in Brazil, Central America, Southern Asia, and Madagascar. Rosewood is found in rainforests in these places.

  3. Balsa

Balsa is the lightest wood in business use. Oven-dried balsa wood weighs from about seven to ten pounds per cubic foot. The heavier kinds of balsa weigh as much as twenty pounds per cubic foot. Balsa grows from southern Mexico to North Venezuela, and along the western coast of South America as far as Bolivia. The wood is used in making model airplanes, and some kinds of boats, truck bodies, life rafts, and buoys.

We hope you enjoyed the report and the poster we made. For our poster we used paints, colored pencils, and crayons. Thank-you for reading our report and looking at our poster.

RAINFOREST
by Kirsten and Courtney

This poster is about animals and plants of the rainforest. They depend on each other for food, protection and shelter.

Howler monkeys eat the young leaves that are found mostly in the larger parts of the trees. They make very low noises. They live in Asia, South America, Australia, and Africa. You could spot them in the higher emergent layer and the canopy.

Macaws fly in search of food. They use their good eyesight to spot ripe fruit. They nest in holes in the rain forest trees. They have long tails. Macaws are found in South America, Central America, and Mexico. Macaws are the largest parrots. They are very long and have powerful bills. They have beautiful feathers of blue, red, yellow, and green. Macaws eat nuts, seeds and fruits.

Squirrel monkeys have a more different diet. It has leaves, fruits, and, small animals such as insects and spiders. They are found at all levels of the rainforest. They are also a small colored monkey. They are found in the forest of Central and South America, and Costa Rica to Bolivia.

Sloths eat leaves, stems, berries, and fruit in the rainforest trees. They are usually active at night . Sloths are mostly found in South America. They are found in all parts of the trees. Their have peglike teeth. Sloth’s hair is long, coarse and grayish. They are a rather slow kind of animal.

Kinkajous eat fruit, honey, insects, and other small animals. They use their long tails to grasp branches as they move through the trees in search of food. They are active at night. They are found in southern Mexico to Brazil.

Ocelots spend most of their time on the ground. They eat mice, lizards, snakes, birds, monkeys, sloths, and other animals. Ocelots are also active at night. They are usually found in South America.

Jaguars sometimes hunt in rainforest trees. They spend most of their lives on the ground. They eat birds, sloths, monkeys, and other land animals. They also hunt for fish in water. They live in South America , and Southern Mexico.

Poison Arrow Frogs eat insects. They live on the ground in tropical rainforests. They are also found on the trunks and lower branches but not at the top level. They are found in Central and South America. If any animal eats them the animal will die.

Poison ivy is in every rainforest. If any animal eats some, it will die in three days or less. It will not die if it touches it.

Those are some plants and animals that depend on each other. If you do not want to lose these animals, then save them.

The Rain Forest
by Mete and Ethan

We are going to tell you about the rain forest. This includes plants and animals.

First we will tell you about sloths. They eat leaves, stems, berries, and fruits. They are usually active at night. Sloths rely on the trees for food, shelter, and protection.

Squirrel monkeys are another animal in the rainforest. They eat leaves, fruit, and small animals, such as insects, and spiders. Squirrel monkeys are found at all levels of the rainforest.

Jaguars are another animal in the rainforest. They sometimes hunt in the rainforest trees. They spend most of their life on the rainforest floor. They eat sloths, birds, monkeys, and other land animals.

The poison dart frog eats insects. Their poison comes out of their pores on their skin. It is very deadly. They live on the forest floor.

Now you know about the animals in our rainforest picture. I hope you like our picture.

The Rain Forest
by Kyle and Jason

We are going to tell you about some trees and animals in the rainforest. There are so many interesting facts about the rainforest. The howler monkey eats young leaves at the emergent layer. Its predator is the harpy eagle. Howler monkeys depend on trees for shelter, food and protection.

The boa lives in the understory. It eats small monkeys, eggs, rats and non-poisonous frogs. Its predators are any large birds. Boas depend on trees for camouflage, protection, shelter, and food.

The butterfly lives anywhere in the rainforest. It feeds on nectar. Its enemy is the bird.

The harpy eagle lives in the emergent layer. It nests in very tall trees. Their prey are, rats, lizards, butterflies, and snakes.

The red-eyed tree frog lives in the canopy. It mostly hides in the trees and sleeps, in the day. It’s predators are all kinds of birds. It eats small insects such as dragonflies and butterflies.

The Jaguar lives on the forest floor. It mostly hunts at night. Jaguars prey is sloth, anteaters, and other animals on the forest floor.

Tapirs live on the forest floor. Their predator is the jaguar and the ocelot. They eat ants, termites, and small beetles.

These are some of the animals in the rainforest that we have described. If you cut the rainforest down we will lose all the wonderful animals. Also, the animals wouldn’t have homes. The rain forest is a great place to be.

The Rainforest
By: Christina & Chelsea

This is our report on the rain forest. It tells how everything in the rainforest helps each other.

The Red-Eyed Tree Frog eats insects, moths, and leaves. For protection it hides in the trees and it can jump very high. They live in the canopy.

The Three-Toed Sloth eats leaves, stems, berries, and fruit. To protect themselves they have claws for climbing steep trees. They live in the middle of the canopy.

The Toucan eats several fruit. For protection it hides in the trees. They live in the high canopy.

The Tapir eats twigs, foliage off of trees, shrubs, fruits and other vegetables. It is very fast. It lives on the forest floor.

The Jaguar eats birds, monkeys, sloth, and fish. They are very good runners and can climb trees well. Jaguars hunt in the understory, but they live on the forest floor.

The Harpy Eagle eats insects and monkey. It can fly very fast. It lives in the rainforest.

All of these animals depend on each other for food, protection, and shelter. This is why we should save the rain forest.

Rainforest Animals
by Brittany & Anastasia

Hi, we’re going to show you some of the rainforest animals. It is very important to conserve the rainforest. These animal habitats are in the rainforest levels.

  • Three Toed Sloth

Sloths, usually, are active at night. Their diet is leaves, stems, berries, and fruits. They provide food for the jaguars.

  • Macaw

Macaws fly in search of food. They eat ripe fruits and plants. They are very similar to the parrot.

  • Parrot

Parrots are similar to Toucans. Their habitat is in the rainforest trees. Parrots eat berries and other plants. When they eat, seeds fall on the forest floor.

  • Ocelot

Ocelots spend most of their time on the forest floor. They eat mice, lizards, snakes, birds, sloths, monkeys, and other animals. Ocelots are also nocturnal.

  • Jaguar

Usually, Jaguars hunt in rainforest trees. They spend most of their on the forest floor. Jaguars are meat-eaters. They hunt for fish, too.

  • Squirrel Monkey

Squirrel Monkeys have a bigger diet than a Howler Monkey. There diet includes leaves, fruit, and small insects. They provide food for ocelots, and jaguars. Squirrel Monkeys are found on all levels of the rainforest.

  • Toucan

Toucans are colored brightly and they are very noisy. Toucans can fly. The trees provide shelter and food for the toucans.

  • Kinkojous

Kinkojous eat fruit, honey, insects, and other small animals. They use their tails to grasp onto branches and food. They provide food for jaguars.

  • Poison-Arrow Frog

One ounce of the poison arrow frog's poison is enough to kill 1,000 people. The poison arrow frog eats insects. They are found on the forest floor.

  • Leaf-Cutter Ants

Leaf-cutter ants feed on small insects and plants. Leaf-cutter ants travel in groups. Leaf-cutter ants have pinchers to cut leaves. They take the nutrients out of the leaves.

Layers

  1. Emergent = Highest level

  2. Canopy = Second highest level

  3. Understory = Second lowest level

  4. Forest Floor = Lowest level

Those are some of the rainforest animals.

Remember it is very important to conserve the rainforest. There are many discovered and undiscovered animals in the rainforest. Can you think of some? HAVE FUN !!!!!!!!!
